COINDU | Sustainability Report - 2024
Materiality assessment application of occupational health and safety (OHS) measures. Key activities involved the collection or removal of personal protec- tive equipment (PPE), chemical products, and medical materials, as well as the organization and secure handling of archives, including employee medical records. Dedicated human resources were assigned to carry out these tasks while ensuring that health and safety standards and worker safety were maintained throughout the process. Strict adherence to PPE usage was enforced, particularly during higher-risk activities such as warehouse rack dismantling, operating forklift for truck loading, uninstallation of machines and work at height, ensuring a safe and compliant deactivation process. It is expected that, upon completion of this tasks, no occupational accidents will have been recorded among the workers involved in these activities. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS AND MITIGATION MEASURES Waste separation remained a key environmental priority during the deactivation of the Arcos de Valdevez unit, particularly due to the sig- nificant volume of obsolete materials and hazardous waste requiring proper disposal in accordance with legal requirements and COINDU’s environmental policies. Additionally, the collection of waste containers distributed throughout the facility had to be carried out in an orderly and compliant manner, ensuring that the handling and transport of chemical products met all applicable environmental standards. Beyond these operational tasks, additional measures were implemented to meet the necessary environmental requirements related to the clo- sure and sale of the facility. This included formal communication with relevant public entities, namely the Portuguese Environment Agency 66
