If no specific legislation on the subject is in place and applicable, suppliers undertake to ensure that they respect animals’ five fundamental freedoms (freedom from hunger and thirst; from discomfort; freedom from pain, injury and freedom from fear and anxiety). • Sustainable Sourcing: COINDU work with suppliers certified by organizations like the Leather Working Group (LWG), which promotes better animal welfare and environmental practices. • Traceability Initiatives: Suppliers guarantee that the hides do not come from animals raised on farms implicated in illegal deforestation of the Amazon and other protected areas in South America. Efforts to trace leather back to farms with humane treatment stand- ards are growing, though challenges remain in global supply chains. • Vegan and Synthetic Alternatives: Some Brands that COINDU works for, have introduced synthetic or plant-based leather options, reducing reliance on animal products and addressing ethical concerns. DUE DILIGENCES Conflict Minerals COINDU have defined a Responsible Sourcing Policy for Conflict Minerals (3TG, Cobalt and Mica) to prevent “Conflict Minerals” from entering in its supply chain.
